Joyce DiPastena will be signing copies of her sweet medieval romances, Loyalty's Web and Illuminations of the Heart, at the Arizona Renaissance Festival on Saturday, March 20, from 1-3 PM. Look for her and her books at Lady Ann Chamberlin's Bookshop. She'll be dressed pretty much like this.

New Excerpt for Lethal Dreams

Blurb: Dr. Erin Jacobs is making a name for herself in the sports world. Drawing on her own life experiences, she encourages and inspires athletes to recover from career ending injuries. So why would someone want to hurt the good doctor? Detective Logan Sinclair is determined to find that answer. He’s been mesmerized by Erin from the moment she found him and his partner shot in an alleyway. Since that night their lives have never been the same. Will Logan be able to solve the puzzle of who wants Erin out of the way before it’s too late? And if so what impact will those answers have on their lives?

Excerpt: This scene takes place in a restaurant. Erin and one of her co-workers are treating her former youth group to some pizza when two masked men enter.

A woman’s scream shattered their joy. Erin glanced over her shoulder and saw two masked men standing near the cash register. Both were armed with handguns. Her heart leaped in her chest.

“Everyone down on the floor…now!”

Erin felt her heart slamming against her chest as she grabbed Jessica and pushed her to the floor. The teenager began to sob. “It’ll be okay, Jess. As long as we do as they say, they won’t hurt us.”

She heard a few of the children begin to pray the Lord’s Prayer. She wondered if God would listen.

“Erin,” Joey whispered, “Bobby said to use your cell phone to call 911.”

She shook her head. “Just be quiet and keep your head down. It’ll be over with soon.” Had she been alone, she may have risked calling the police, but as it was, she had a table full of children to worry about.

“Come on, sweetheart, hurry it up.”

“Anyone with cell phones, you best not be using them.”

She blinked, thankful she had gone with her instinct.

“Grab a hostage.”

Erin looked up. One of the robbers was heading toward their table. Oh no, not one of the children.

He looked directly at her. “You, get up.”

Erin forced herself to swallow. “Okay. Just don’t harm the children,” she pleaded, rising slowly to her feet.

“Erin, don’t,” Bobby screamed as he rushed around the table.

Erin turned. A loud explosion caused her to jump. Her ears began to ring.

Jessica screamed.

Erin’s eyes widened at the sight of Bobby falling to the floor, clutching his stomach. She started toward him, but the man beside her grabbed her arm. “You’re coming with us.”
